Openings at the PhD and Postdoctoral level!
October 4th, 2024
Thanks to UMBC’s Physics Department and Cybersecurity Institute, I am now seeking exceptional candidates at the PhD and Postdoctoral levels.
PhD candidates & Exchange PhD students
Ideal candidates are expected to show a solid background in general physics, a broad interest in theoretical physics, and a passion for at least one of the group’s core areas of interest.
For PhD students – Perspective Graduate Students interested in joining the group should follow the standard application process to be admitted to UMBC Graduate School. Information about our graduate program can be found here. Once admitted, and after (roughly) one year of courses, they can choose a supervisor from the Graduate Faculty.
For Exchange PhD Students – External PhD students interested in spending time within the CQS group should contact PI Anza directly at fanza@umbc.edu. Funding is currently available, but the situation needs to be assessed case-by-case.
Postdoctoral researchers
Strong candidates must have a track record in two or more of the group’s core areas of interest. People interested should reach out to PI Anza fanza@umbc.edu with an Expression of Interest email and be prepared to submit the following material:
- Academic Curriculum
- List of Publications (can be included in the CV)
- Cover Letter (short, 1 page max) discussing
- Why are they interested in the Complex Quantum Systems theme and/or in the three core focus areas of the group;
- Past and Current research work;
- A list of two to three people, and their contact info, willing to send reference letters
